Group Of Friends Save Abused Puppy

Walter is Found • • • • • • •

On Easter Sunday night, Alex Darsey was walking outside his house in Brooklyn when a scared little puppy approached him out of nowhere. A neighbor told Alex that they had seen someone throw the puppy out of a car and drive off.
Alex brought him home and named him Walter. The pup was incredibly malnourished, dehydrated and suffering from a severe case of Mange (a very serious skin disease). The fact that human beings could leave an innocent puppy this way on the street is unfathomable.
Alex and some friends brought him to the emergency room that night and to the Vet the following morning. The doctors agreed that Walter had a long road ahead, but had a chance to grow up and lead a healthy, normal life. They estimated that he was between 2 and 3 months old.

A Group of Friends Begin to Help • • • • • • •
A group of friends collectively decided to try to help this incredibly sweet and loving puppy get better. The vet put him on antibiotics and anti-parisite medication and they bathed him with medicated soap to help sooth his inflamed skin. After a few days of baths, good meals and lots of love and attention from his new family, Walter seemed to be doing really well.
However, 2 days later, Walter lost his appetite, and his body temperature and electrolytes began to drop rapidly. They brought him into the emergency room again. His temperature was so low it didn’t register on the thermometer. They put him in a sort of heated incubator and gave him fluids through an IV.
Over the course of the next few days they had to ask themselves whether it was in Walter’s best interest to continue treatment. He was not in pain, and was fighting to survive. Unfortunately emergency care is very expensive, and they simply didn’t know how long he’d have to stay there.

A Decision is Made • • • • • • •
The group decided that as long as Walter was fighting to stick around, they would fight with him.
They created a blog and a facebook page and asked the public for any help they could offer. There was no shortage of people to care for this little man and he did have a home waiting for him, they just needed to get him strong enough to make it there.
They started to chronicle his progress and raise funds for his recovery, and continued to care for him in any way they could.
